THREE SCENARIOS

* * *

A man drives home from work. Waiting at a red light, he replays in his mind an incident early in the day when he delivered a devastating retort to a coworker he does not like. He repeats it aloud: grinning, enunciating each word. He hoots and pounds the steering wheel.

Just as the light turns green, he turns to look at the driver of the car idling next to him and sees the coworker, looking back with curious eyes.

* * *

Two friends leave a movie theatre. One wonders aloud why the outside world always seems strange after a movie. The other posits this is the result of not smoking for two hours.

* * *

A man visits his ex-girlfriend at her home on a Sunday morning, bringing pastry and flowers. He tells her that, after two weeks apart, he wants to get back together with her. She has been hoping this would happen. They are both very happy.

Later that day, he dresses to leave. Wishing him farewell, she notices a condom put briefly to use the night before has adhered to the sole of his shoe.
